What is 13 Moons?
The Thirteen Moons Journey is a sacred exploration of personal discovery, guided by the moon’s cycles and the creative power of inspiring female artists. The monthly circles are online women’s circles with a difference, using the benefits of Art Therapy and Biographical Counselling alongside Nature Thearpy and Cycles awareness.
"Thirteen Moons is about: Reconnecting with our feminine energy, aligning ourselves with the moon’s rhythms, and honoring the wisdom of the earth and the generations of women who came before us. It’s about embracing the shifts and cycles of life with grace, wisdom, and a deep understanding of our natural rhythms. A time to reflect and reconnect with the creative force that lives within each of us, drawing inspiration from the work of female artists who have shaped our world through their art." (quote from participant)

Each phase of the moon offers a unique opportunity to reflect, release, and manifest, teaching us how to live in harmony with the natural world. Creative Exploration
This journey integrates movement, visual arts (painting, collage, photography, drawing), and the written word. It is not therapy, but it is deeply therapeutic—a conversation with yourself across the span of a year, guided by the wisdom of the moon.
Women Who Came Before Us
Each cycle introduces a female artist whose work and life story offer inspiration. From Surrealist painters to revolutionary poets, these women’s legacies invite us to create, reflect, and reclaim our own power.
Example: Julia de Burgos (1914–1953) – Puerto Rican poet, feminist, and voice of resistance. Through her poetry, we explore themes of self-liberation, identity, and emotional truth.
Why This Journey?
This is not another task on your to-do list. It is a sacred return to deep, ancient time. A space to slow down, to breathe, and to listen to the call within.
You are invited.
Take the radical step of honouring yourself and the cycles of life.

Thirteen Moons Artists: A Circle of Creative Ancestors
These female artists stand around us like a circle of ancestors, their stories offering strength and creative guidance. They lived with unwavering determination, honouring their art despite adversity—swimming against the current in a world that often ignored, abused, or silenced them. Yet, their legacy shines as a beacon for us today.
Curated by Paloma Todd Montes (@soberaniacreativa, ), a Puerto Rican artist and mentor, these artists were chosen for their deep ties to the Surrealist Movement and the availability of their work in Spanish. Paloma’s research forms the foundation of much of our course content, which I have translated and interpreted.
As we explore their lives, we celebrate their resilience and achievements within the limitations of their time. In their struggles, we find parallels to our own journeys, connecting across eras through shared creativity, humanity, and womanhood. Their passion inspires us to honour and nurture our own creative fire.
Frida Kahlo and Tina Modotti, 1945
Two revolutionary women who embodied the Thirteen Moons spirit—bold, resilient, and fiercely creative. Their legacy inspires us to honour our truth.
Leonor Fini, Torre San Lorenzo, Italy, 1952
Fiercely independent and defying labels, Leonor Fini lived as she painted—boldly and unapologetically. Rejecting Surrealist constraints, she crafted her own world of mystery, power, and transformation. In the Thirteen Moons Cycle, we honour Fini for her defiance of societal norms, her exploration of identity, and her unwavering creative force, inspiring us to embrace our own artistic truth.
Thirteen Moons Journey provides a safe space in which to explore those topics that need sacred moon time to ponder
We develop a nourishing practise of paying attention to the cycles of the moon, our own cycles and more cycles of the world around us
We create time to use our bodies in movement, visual art: painting, collage, drawing, photography and written word to share our stories
We build on the foundation of women supporting women in present time and through ancestral connections
